On May 14, the award-winning classical guitarist Stephanie Jones (Australia) will come to The Hague. Despite her young age, she has already released four albums, won numerous prizes in prestigious competitions and has hundreds of thousands of followers on all her social media channels. Her YouTube channel is the largest in the classical guitar world with millions of views. World famous Brazilian guitarist and composer, Sergio Assad describes her as “a brilliant interpreter with magical sound and the deepest musical expression”.

Stephanie Jones’ childhood was full of music. She started with the piano and later also played the violin, viola, saxophone and flute. But it was the guitar with its captivating timbres and great versatility that particularly appealed to her. Soon the guitar became her first real love! Stephanie is passionate about sharing her music with others and is recognized as an innovative and deeply musical artist.

She is currently based in Germany and studies both ‘Konzertexamen’ and ‘Teacher’s Exam’ at the Franz Liszt Music University with Prof. Thomas Müller-Pering. She plays a top guitar from 2012 by the Australian luthier Paul Sheridan.

During this concert, Stephanie will perform works from her up-coming album featuring all-female composers, among others also Australian composers. The Hague Guitar Society Foundation is looking forward to this concert and invites everyone to share with us what would undoubtedly be another unforgettable performance!

The first concert of the year and the second of the season “Ode aan de vrouw” will take place on March 5th with the amazing guitarist Gaëlle Solal from France.

The French top guitarist Gaëlle Solal is a born artist. As a little girl she wanted to become a dancer and musician… That dream came true! She is a professional soloist, a chamber musician, and a prize-winning guitarist. The freedom she feels in making music allows Gaëlle to move seamlessly from serious, formal solo performances to comic duets, from Bach to The Beatles, from contemporary music to baroque. The concerts, which she always gives with a smile, are colourful, virtuoso, inspired and full of passion. Her dedication to performing and her love for the stage is immense. As a matter of fact, she gave up her job at the prestigious conservatoires of Córdoba and Seville to devote herself to a full-time career of performing. She is a leading musician who – among other things – was the first female guitarist to win the prestigious ‘City of Alessandria’ competition. Gaëlle campaigns for the presence and visibility of women in the guitar world via the Guitar’Elles association, of which she is the founder. Currently she has settled in Belgium and teaches at the Royal conservatory of Ghent.

During the concert on March 5 in the Haagse Gitaar Serie, the program has a focus is on one of the largest guitar countries in the world: Brazil. Music by E. Nazareth, A.C. Jobim, H. Villa Lobos and, of course, Brazilian-inspired music by Roland Dyens and Gaëlle Solal’s own arrangements by E. Gismonti and Garoto.

British-French guitarist and composer Laura Snowden described as a ‘string sensation’ by BBC Music Magazine, is acclaimed for her ‘poise and intensity’ (Guardian), and playing of ‘extraordinary depth’ (Strings, Classical Music Magazine).

Laura Snowden was one of the few guitarists who studied with grandmaster Julian Bream. She played many world premieres of new compositions, including the latest commissions by Bream himself! Laura has been a soloist with many symphony orchestras, has collaborated on Hollywood soundtracks, has composed music that has been performed in the Royal Albert Hall, BBC Radio3 and on the national radio of Scotland and Hong Kong, has performed at international concert venues, is an inspired teacher for both composition and guitar and she received a donation at a young age for a scholarship from the Rolling Stones!
She is a classical guitarist in the broadest sense of the word. Additionally, she toured with her folk group at the invitation of John Williams to numerous British shows and festivals and Classical Guitar Magazine described her music as ‘…linking guitar’s past, present and future’.

As an established musician in the international music world, Laura Snowden knows how to move the audience with intimate playing and at the same time with such a unique palette of timbres that she makes her guitar sound like a true orchestra.
